24-second typography comparison storyboard

Compare two typographic treatments under matched conditions so reviewers can judge the letters and movement without being distracted by different copy or backgrounds.

Who this is for: Motion producers planning timed educational and brand studies.

What to prepare

  • Two approved font treatments and exact files
  • One identical phrase with difficult glyphs
  • Matched composition, movement and playback size

Copyable creative brief

An authored planning example. Replace illustrative details with your approved product facts and assets.

Produce a controlled specimen comparison using the same sentence, background, path and total viewing conditions. Label A and B neutrally. Show each alone before a final reference comparison. Do not claim readability superiority without an actual review; the storyboard is a method for collecting observations.

Build a fair specimen

Include actual punctuation, accents and difficult characters from the project. The illustrative phrase is only a starting point. Equal nominal font sizes may look different, so document the apparent-size choice and any adjustment rather than quietly favoring one treatment.

Retiming and layout variations

Twenty-four seconds is a planning duration. For 30 seconds, use 0–4, 4–12, 12–20 and 20–30 seconds. Preserve equal A/B intervals and give the final comparison more inspection time. On a narrow frame, stack the settled specimens; do not make one smaller merely to fit beside the other.

Capture observations rather than preferences alone

Use review fields for ambiguous letters, spacing, line stability, moving-state readability and final-hold readability. A comment such as “the r and n merge at compact playback” is actionable. If a candidate fails only in the footnote role, restrict that role rather than rejecting every use of the typeface.

Review checklist

  • Both treatments use identical copy and movement.
  • A and B receive equal standalone inspection time.
  • Final labels do not imply a preferred winner.
  • The compact encoded view is included in review.
