Motion design craft / Storyboard

30-second dated milestone timeline storyboard

Show documented milestones in order while making the spacing convention explicit. Equally spaced cards must not silently imply equal time gaps.

Who this is for: Motion producers planning timed educational and brand studies.

What to prepare

  • Approved milestone names and exact dates
  • A source record for every date
  • Decision: time-proportional scale or sequence-only layout

Copyable creative brief

An authored planning example. Replace illustrative details with your approved product facts and assets.

Create a timeline from supplied documented events. Preserve exact dates and distinguish sequence order from elapsed-time distance. The example dates are fictional planning material; replace them and their labels with verified records before presenting a real history.

Make it your own

MILESTONES
Supply dated events in verified order.
SPACING_RULE
Choose time-proportional placement or clearly labeled sequence-only spacing.
DATE_SOURCES
Map each date to a precise supporting reference.

Choose a spacing convention

A time-proportional timeline can show unequal intervals directly but may bunch nearby events. A sequence-only row can improve label spacing if it explicitly says distances do not represent time. Choose based on the lesson's question and keep the convention visible during interpretation.

Replace the fictional history

Supply event title, exact date, source title, precise source location and reviewer for every milestone. Do not use a publication date as the event date without checking. If a date is approximate, retain that uncertainty in the visible wording instead of assigning a convenient day.

Adapt and verify the layout

For 15 seconds, use fewer milestones with an explicit scope reduction and keep the spacing note. For 60 seconds, add short event explanations while retaining dates. Inspect the final frame against the source register and check chronology after any copy change. A polished line is not evidence that the dates are correct.

Review checklist

  • Every real date has a precise source.
  • The spacing convention is explicit.
  • Uncertain dates retain their uncertainty.
  • The complete reference preserves chronological order.
