Motion design craft / Storyboard

25-second uncertainty range storyboard

Show an estimate and range as one idea. This planning example uses fictional values and requires the actual data owner to supply any statistical interpretation.

What to prepare

  • Estimate, bounds, units and source
  • Approved meaning of the interval
  • Scope and qualification wording

Copyable creative brief

An authored planning example. Replace illustrative details with your approved product facts and assets.

Build a fixed-scale range graphic whose endpoints remain inspectable. Use the sequence to explain the supplied meaning, not to add probability or certainty. Keep estimate, bounds and qualification together during the final reference hold.

Scene-by-scene storyboard

25-second planning sequence · illustrative copy and visual direction

  1. 01

    0–4s

    Introduce the estimate

Show a day axis and the estimate marker with an example label.

    On screen:Illustrative estimate: 12 days

  2. 02

    4–9s

    Reveal the interval

Add visible endpoints at 9 and 16 on the same scale without shifting 12.

    On screen:Illustrative range: 9–16 days

  3. 03

    9–15s

    Explain the meaning

Show the approved interval explanation in a protected region while keeping the full graphic visible.

On screen:[Approved explanation of what this range represents]

  4. 04

    15–20s

    State the limitation

Emphasize the qualification without hiding the bounds.

On screen:The example alone supplies no probability or guarantee.

  5. 05

    20–25s

    Hold the reference

Keep estimate, endpoints, unit, interpretation and source-status note still.

On screen:12 days • range 9–16 • illustrative planning values

Make it your own

ESTIMATE and BOUNDS
Use approved values and consistent precision.
INTERVAL_MEANING
Supply the exact interpretation; do not infer it.
QUALIFICATION
State what the interval does not guarantee.

Supply meaning before production

The bracketed interpretation is a required input, not copy to publish unchanged. The fictional values demonstrate layout only. For a real interval, have the data owner approve what the bounds mean and any associated uncertainty wording. Do not label it a confidence interval merely because it is drawn as a band.

Retiming and scenario adaptation

Twenty-five seconds is a planning duration. For 30 seconds, use 0–4, 4–10, 10–18, 18–24 and 24–30 seconds, extending explanation and reference time. When comparing scenarios, keep a shared scale and separate scenario labels; do not center every estimate geometrically inside its band.

Check for invented certainty

Inspect the most emphatic frame for a lone estimate that reads as a guarantee. If the range is only a soft glow, add numeric endpoints. If the note becomes too small, simplify surrounding decoration or move nonessential method detail into supporting material while retaining the interpretation needed in the scene.

Review checklist

  • The interval interpretation is supplied and approved.
  • The estimate's position follows the values.
  • The qualification remains with the range.
  • No probability or precision is added without evidence.
